Meet the team- flying out to Bangladesh today!

You may have heard about our 2009 trip. Well, the time has come for us to depart! Our bags are packed and we are on our way to Heathrow airport. When we return we'll send you a summary of our experiences.-updating you on news and developments from the women's groups in the Bogra region where many of you are currently sponsoring.

So I'm pleased to introduce our 2009 team....

Wendy Lancaster, York
Health Visitor for families and communities in the UK.

“I am looking forward to meeting the women involved in the project groups and learning more about how the initiatives have changed and improved their lives. The experience will I hope help me to raise the profile and communicate the value of this work, so that more disadvantaged women can be supported in their struggle to escape from the poverty and injustices that they face.

Alice Gavin, York ( soon moving to London )
HR manager at Nestle

“I want to go to Bangladesh because I’m passionate to understand another, different culture, but also because I fundamentally believe in the aims of Women of Action and would like to get involved in helping to grow sponsorship when I return. My dream is to know I made a difference before I Ieave this planet..... How, I don’t yet know .... But hoping Bangladesh will give me some time to reflect on that.”

Karen Smith, London
College Lecturer

“I want to see the Women of Action initiative in practice. I have a passion for helping women overcome difficult circumstances to fulfill their true potential in life and be all God intended them to be. So this is charity is a perfect match for me.”

Jenny Hough, York
Spurriergate Centre worker
( a restaurant, shop and counselling centre in York )

“As I have known John and Kate Marsden ( Project leaders in Bangladesh ) for about twenty years, the opportunity to see the work of Food for the Hungry in Bangladesh was too good to miss. I’m looking forward to visiting the women’s groups and hope to be able to promote their cause when I get back.”

Judith North, South Wales
Corporate Director - REACH Supported Living UK

“People’s stories have given me inspiration to believe in the impossible, to find new ways of working and to have courage in the face of what looks like the undoable....I am clear that I am going on this trip to learn. I want to use the learning to benefit people who I work with now and whom I have yet to meet.... After I return I hope to find ways of giving back. I am confident that Food for the Hungry will help me to work that out.”

Wendy Taylor, York
Retired mid-wife

“4 years ago, following a meeting with John and Kate, my Church group decided to sponsor a group in Bangladesh. Now the opportunity has come to go to Bangladesh with a group of women and see the groups in action, I was eager to put my name forward. I trust that after seeing groups first hand, I may be able to inspire others to sponsor groups in the same way that John and Kate inspired me."

Jessica Marris, Buckinghamshire
Secretary and Food for the Hungry volunteer

“Every time I have a cup of coffee out with friends, I am reminded that £3 a week could support several women in Bangladesh for a whole month and I need to see for myself just how much that can impact lives in Bangladesh. I know I will not find this trip easy but I am sure I should go."

Charlene Hayden, Buckinghamshire
